Highlights

As a result of a $3.475 billion agreement to acquire Dominion’s E&P business, CONSOL Energy will be the largest, and among the fastest growing and lowest cost, producers of natural gas in the Appalachian Basin. In addition, CONSOL will have one of the leading positions in the strategic Marcellus Shale fairway by tripling development assets to approximately 750,000 acres.

CONSOL Energy, Inc. and AES Greenidge LLC, part of AES eastern Energy, L.P. successfully demonstrated a compact, cost-effective multi-pollutant control technology. The technology would be used to help reduce air emissions from smaller coal-fired power plants.

The Pennsylvania Department of Energy gave CONSOL Energy a $1 million grant to help finance a project that will test new technology designed to capture a minimum of 95-percent of the carbon dioxide (CO2), a major greenhouse gas, from a coal-fired test plant. The test project incorporates technology developed by Sargas Inc.

Mon River Towing, a subsidiary of CONSOL Energy, recorded more than 2,000,000 exposure hours without a lost-time accident.

Employees of CNX Gas, a subsidiary of CONSOL Energy, passed the four-million hour mark without a lost time-accident. CNX Gas Corporation is the leading eastern U.S. gas producer.

In Clay County, West Virginia, CONSOL Energy’s Fola operations recorded one million exposure hours worked without any recordable injuries. With that accomplishment, Fola became the first CONSOL Energy site to earn the J. Brett Harvey Safety Award.

CONSOL Energy joined forces with the Pennsylvania Federation of Sportsmen’s Clubs, Inc. and the North American Wildlife Enforcement Officers Association to raise awareness of fish and wildlife resources. CONSOL’s donation provided educational and hands-on opportunities for sportsmen and women of all ages.

As part of a $1.5 million Clean Diesel Emerging Technology Grant through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, the CONSOL Energy towboat, Champion, received an energy makeover. The Recovery Act grant paid for the towboat to be upgraded to diesel engines.
