Gateway to the world's energy market

Located on 200 acres along the north shore of the Patapsco River, CONSOL Energy's terminal in the Port of Baltimore is the only East Coast terminal served by two rail lines – Norfolk Southern and CSX Transportation. Operated by subsidiary, CNX Marine Terminal, Inc., the Baltimore terminal features high-speed, high-capacity equipment that provides coal transshipment directly from rail cars to ocean-going vessels. The terminal has ground storage facility for more than 1.1 million tons of coal and can load approximately 12 million tons of coal per year.
During 2008, a total of 8.9 million tons of coal was shipped through the terminal, making the company the largest coal exporter in Baltimore. Thirty-four percent of that coal was produced by CONSOL Energy.
International Coal Shipment
With growing world demand for coal, the terminal gives CONSOL Energy a competitive advantage with overseas customers. Because the company owns its own terminal, it can provide coordinated and assured shipping services. This competitive advantage has earned CONSOL multi-year contracts with European power producers making us the largest supplier of steam coal imports used to produce electricity in Europe.
Other Services
CNX Marine Terminal is also a service provider for shipments of metals, forest products and other break bulk cargo.
