Approximately 95 percent of CONSOL Energy coal is used to generate power, providing 6.5 percent of America’s total electricity supply. From the computer you’re using right now to the traffic lights in the streets, from the factories turning out manufactured goods to the lights in all those city skylines, CONSOL is America’s On Switch.
We transport this coal to our power company customers in several ways. Most of our mines are served by major railroads, and our coal preparation plants have the capacity to load dozens of rail cars every day.
In addition, CONSOL Energy operates 25 towboats, five harbor boats and more than 750 barges. Together, they carry more than 20 million tons of coal up and down the Monongahela, Allegheny and Ohio rivers. The company’s Baltimore export terminal supplies coal to many overseas destinations. The terminal can store more than one million tons of coal on site and is the only East Coast terminal served by two railroads.
Our coal is delivered to customers in a variety of ways.
