Available to CONSOL Employees and Retiree Dependents ONLY.
This scholarship program was established by CONSOL Energy for the children or legal wards of full-time active, retired (early, normal or incapacity) or deceased employees of CONSOL Energy companies. The annual competition is conducted through the National Merit Scholarship Program by National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC), an independent, not-for-profit organization. NMSC’s purposes are (1) to identify and honor exceptionally able high school students and (2) to provide a system of services for corporations, foundations, and other organizations that wish to sponsor college undergraduate scholarships for outstanding students who interest them. All aspects of the selection of winner and the administration of their awards are handled by NMSC.
The 2011 Merit Scholarships, eligible to high school juniors only, range in award from $500 to $2,000 per year and for up to four years.
High School Juniors intending to apply for 2011 Merit Scholarships should contact their guidance counselor to make plans to take the 2009 PSAT/NMSQT on either Wednesday, October 14, or Saturday, October 17, 2009.
