      CONSOL Energy and the Pittsburgh Penguins helped to kick off the 2012-2013 ice hockey season by launching a new Community All Stars program and honoring the first Community All-Stars from the Westmoreland County Food Bank.  During an informal pre-game ceremony outside CONSOL Energy Center, representatives from the organization were awarded tickets to the Pittsburgh Penguins first home game, during which they were recognized on the center ice scoreboard.

      The Greene County Habitat for Humanity received a boost on Saturday when a dozen employees from CONSOL Energy volunteered their time.  The employees, who work in CONSOL Energy's southwestern Pennsylvania Gas operations, teamed up to help build a home in Crucible, PA.

    • Monday, February 18

      An open house was held from 6-8 pm on Monday, February 18, 2013 at the Findlay Township Activity Center in Imperial, PA. The open house provided an opportunity for residents to learn more about what to expect when natural gas development begins at Pittsburgh International Airport. Information was available on CONSOL Energy's drilling process, environmental protection measures and the Marcellus shale formation in Findlay Township. The open house was being presented by the Allegheny County Airport Authority, Allegheny County and CONSOL Energy.

      Monday, February 18

      CONSOL Energy continued its support for the Grundy High School Robotics Team, presenting the team with a check fro $5,000 during an open house event attended by students, parents, their mentors and school board members. The year's team is comprised of students from Grundy, Hurley and Council high schools and will compete in March in the FIRST Robotics Competition.  This year marks the sixth year CONSOL Energy has been a major sponsor of the Grundy robotics team.  Students have spent an estimated 2,500 hours designing and building their robot for this year's competition.       CONSOL Energy presented a check in the amount of $7,811 to Charleroi Area (PA) School District. The money represents the value of electricity generated during the first two months of operation of a waste methane-fueled low-emission 200kW microturbine at CONSOL Energy's Fallowfield Gas Processing Plant located in Fallowfield Township, Washington County, PA.  The school plans to use the money for science programs.

      CONSOL Energy presented public libraries in Buchanan, Russell and Tazewell counties with a copy of the book, "Virginia: A Commonwealth of Opportunity."  The 250-page book, published by Cherbo Publishing Group, in cooperation with the state and the Virginia Chamber of Commerce, contains an overview of Virginia including a look at its regions higher education, health care, technology, agriculture, manufacturing, transportation and energy.  CONSOL Energy is one of the businesses profiled in the book.

      CONSOL Energy also delivered copies of the book to the School Board Central Office in Buchanan County for placement in each of the school libraries in Buchanan County.  Pictured is Jessica Osborne, CONSOL Energy administrative assistant, presenting a copy of the book to Buchanan County Library Director Sherry Bright.

      Wednesday, March 6 - Friday March 8 

      CONSOL Energy President Nick DeIuliis will speak at the 40th Annual West Virginia Mining Symposium on Thursday, March 7 at the Charleston Civic Center. The event is organized by the West Virginia Coal Association.

      The symposium provides a venue for industry leaders to discuss current domestic and international marketing and production trends and to showcase new mining and mine safety technologies.

      Mr. DeIuliis will speak about the role coal will continue to play in meeting increasing energy demand around the globe, and West Virginia's ability to participate in the future in a safe and compliant manner.  Also speaking, Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin, U.S. Sen. Joe Manchin and U.S. Reps. Shelley Moore Capito and Nick Rahall.

      Caterpillar hosted PA DCED Secretary Alan Walker, PA State Senator Tim Solobay, PA Representative Jesse White, PA Representative Brandon Neuman and CONSOL Energy COO Energy Operations Bart Hyita and VP Supply Chain Darryl Husenits at their Houston facility to announce CONSOL Energy's purchase of Cat longwall equipment, including more than 1,11 roof supports.  In addition to roof supports, four of CONSOL Energy's northwen Appalachia mines - Bailey, Bailey Mine Extension (BMX), Robinson Run and Shoemaker - will get two armored face conveyors, a shearer and three shield haulers.

      CONSOL is also equipping all four longwall systems with the Cat PMC-R electro hydraulic control system for advanced automation and Cat Detect Personnel, a personnel proximity detection system designed to enhance the safety of miners working around longwall systems.  Delivery of equipment will be completed in 2013.

      CONSOL Energy will participate in the 2013 NAPE East Business Conference on Wednesday, April 10. The conference, which will be held at the David E. Lawrence Convention Center, will bring together leading experts and executives from top energy companies for a discussion on how to be successful in today's oil and gas business landscape.

      Teams of 5 rotated between 5 different stations testing their knowledge of aquatics, forestry, wildlife, soils and current issues.

      CONSOL Energy to host its 2nd annual Fish for Fun Day at Lake Wilma.  Kids ages 12 and under can fish for free and cast their luck at catching the "biggest fish." Prizes will be awarded to the first through third place winners in each age division.

      CONSOL Energy will sponsor the Jane Lew Lion Club's 28th annual General Lightburn 5K and 1 Mile Runs as well as the 5K Wellness Walk. Runners and walkers of all ages are invited to participate in the event, which will be held at Stonewall Resort.

      Stonewall Jackson Memorial Hospital will provide a wellness check, offering blood pressure, weight and heigh mesurements along with BMI calculations.

      CONSOL Energy supported the Challenge Program, Inc. in Westmoreland County high schools.  The program aims to motivate high school students to excel, while introducing them to careers in the area.  Sophomores, juniors and seniors who excel in the areas of attendance, academic improvement, academic excellence and community service are awarded a monetary reward.  CONSOL Energy served as the sponsoring business ambassador to Burrell High School.

      CONSOL Energy hosted members of the Clay County, W. Va. Commission and Workforce Development group, along with members of the West Virginia Air National Guard at a briefing and exhibition on the use of the new WVANG drop zone site at CONSOL Energy's Fola operations. The donated site is used by WVANG to train soldiers for readiness in the delivery of supplies and equipment in combat zones.

      CONSOL Energy employees participated in a Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation dinner event in Virginia to celebrate the coming release of elk into the area. CONSOL is a monarch partner in the foundation, helping to support the reintroduction of an elk herd into far southwest Virginia.

      CONSOL Energy helped to sponsor the Virginia Chamber of Commerce Old Dominion Legislative Assembly and several employees attended the event and Virginia Chamber day activities in Richmond, Va.

      CONSOL Energy worked with the Eastern Coal Council on a resolution which was signed by the governor declaring February 1 Coal Awareness Day in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Several CONSOL employees attended the event which was held in conjunction with the ECC's annual legislative breakfast.

      Monday, February 20

      CONSOL Energy employees attended an open house with members of the Grundy Robotics team. CONSOL donates $3,000 annually to the program and attended the open house and parents night to meet students on this year's robotics team and their parents and to watch a demonstration of the competition robot developed by the students for the upcoming competition in March.

      Tuesday, February 21

      CONSOL Energy officials met students, sponsors and local officials in Clay, W. Va. To present students from the Clay County Career and Technology Center with hard hats and safety glasses to help them work safely as they work to complete Bradley Campground Lodge construction project in Clay County, W. Va.

      CONSOL will present a $10,000 check to Monongahela Valley Hospital for the capital campaign. Tours will be given of the new addition after the ceremony. The grant we've made to the Mon Valley Hospital demonstrates CONSOL's commitment to the communities in which we operate.

      CONSOL Energy helped to sponsor and employees attended the Richlands Area Chamber of Commerce Annual Dinner. Randy Albert, gas operations chief operation officer, was the keynote speaker for the event which was held at the Southwest Virginia Community College in Richlands, Virginia.

      The Washington Wild Things mascot tryouts were held at CONSOL Energy's headquarters in Southpointe. A local celebrity panel judged candidates in "American Idol-Style" tryouts.

      CONSOL Energy hosted a dinner for Buchanan County teachers involved in the CEDAR - Coal Education Development and Resources Program - in Buchanan County, kicking off the 2011 CEDAR Coal Fair Event set for April.

      Look for CONSOL Energy at West Virginia's Celebration of National Hunting and Fishing Days (NH&FD) at Stonewall Jackson Lake State Park.  NH&FD is a unique blend of a traditional hunting and fishing show and summer camp.  Like most hunting and fishing shows, NH&FD has a host of vendors selling products and crafts for every outdoor need.  Several concessions serve a variety of delicious food, insuring no one will go away hungry.  This two-day, Hunting & Fishing Youth Challenge, annually attracts more than 15,000 people from multiple counties.  The public can participate in many outdoor activities including shooting, bow hunting, fishing and more for ages 7 to 17.  The experienced instructors will demonstrate techniques and invite participants to compete based on age groups.  Prizes will be awarded for the biggest fish caught and the best aim in shooting and bow.

      CONSOl Energy sponsored the 11th Annual Ohio River Watershed Celebration aboard the Gateway Clipper Fleet.  The day included two cruises -- a children's "Imagination" cruise and an adult "Networking" cruise.  Both spent the afternoon touring the Pittsburgh Rivers.  400 children and 450 adults attended the event.

      Secretary Michael Krancer, of the PA Department of Environmental Protection and John Arway, of the PA Fish and Boat Commission addressed the crowd.  CONSOL's own General Manager of Environmental Services Jonathan Pachter also gave brief remarks about our operations and environmental stewardship in our region.

      CONSOL Energy sponsored the Marcellus Shale Coalition 3 Rivers Challenge.  The event included two fishing tournaments (celebrity pro-am and professional charity competitions), a demonstration of fish survey techniques and fisheries management strategies, a family fishing workshop and conservation stations.
       
      The event supported children's environmental and aquatic education programs in western Pennsylvania.
       
      Watch for the Challenge on cable TV NBC Sports Network on October 28, with additional local airings on ROOT Sports and WPXI.

       Marcellus Shale Documentary Project

      One of CONSOL Energy's Washington County, PA well pads will be featured in The Marcellus Shale Documentary Project.  The opening reception will take place on Thursday, October 11 at the Pittsburgh Filmmakers Galleries.  The exhibition features more than 50 photographic images which tell the personal stories of Pennsylvanians affected by the Marcellus Shale gas industry.  The show runs from October 11, 2012 - January 6, 2013 and is open from Monday-Thursday, 12-7pm; Friday, 12-6pm; and when films are shown in the Melwood Screening Room.

      CONSOL Energy is sponsoring the Carnegie Science Center SciTech Days.  More than 6,000 middle and high school students will explore exhibits about science, technology, engineering and math and career opportunities in these fields.

      CONSOL Energy employees will again be present for and take part in the stocking of the Laurel Creek Lake, near our Miller Creek operations. CONSOL pays annually to stock the lake and on release day is joined by area fisherman at the lake.

      CONSOL Energy sponsored the Buchanan County Chamber of Commerce 75th Anniversary Luncheon and hosted the Buchanan County businesses at the luncheon held at the Central Appalachia Operations Mine Rescue Training Center at Oakwood, Va.

      CONSOL Energy employees helped to organize a fundraiser in conjunction with the Coal Miners' Fund in Buchanan County to benefit the deputies' families impacted by a shooting incident which occurred March 13, claiming the lives of two deputies in the line of duty and injuring two others in Buchanan County, Va. CONSOL pledged $8,000 to help jump start the fund and challenged coal and gas companies and others in the community to step up and give what they could. CONSOL Energy employee donations totaling $4,100 were also collected and donated to the fund. At the Saturday fundraiser, more than $31,000 was raised as community members stop by the courthouse square to drop off their donations; deliver cards for the deputies; and sign banners for the sheriff's department thanking all deputies for their service to the community.

      Steve Winberg, CONSOL Vice President of Research and Development presented the Emerging Female Scientist of the Year award at the Carnegie Science Awards Ceremony.

      CONSOL employees presented a donation to the West Virginia Army National Guard and toured their family service unit facility.

      CONSOL Energy hosted the third annual Race to Stock the Shelves designed to assist the three community food pantries operating in Buchanan County. The program involves all county schools in a race to collect as many canned goods as they can to turn in on "race day." The top three schools won school challenge grants for their schools to use on a project of their choosing. The food collected is donated to the food pantries. In 2011, almost four tons of food was collected through the one-day event.

      CONSOL Energy was a co-sponsor of the Virginia Governor's Cup Mine Rescue Contest held at Southwest Virginia Community College. CONSOL has several teams participating in the contest and a number of employees attended the event.

      CONSOL employees attended the John Ratliff #164 American Legion Open House and CONSOL Energy was recognized for its support and involvement in helping to fund the recently completed post home renovations and remodeling.

      CONSOL was the lead sponsor at Canonsburg, PA's annual fireworks exhibition. CONSOL employees also volunteered their time to walk in the parade to represent the company. This parade is the second largest 4th of July parade in the state of PA!

      Thursday, July 14

      CONSOL hosted the Eastern Coal Council Project Coal to Electricity program participants at the Buchanan Mine. Participants on the tour were teachers who spend a week in the coalfields learning about coal and the Buchanan tour is one of the stops in the program. CONSOL helps to sponsor the event annually.

      CONSOL was a platinum level sponsor of the Buchanan County Fair. CONSOL employees manned a booth at the fair, working with the Common Sense Movement and the Eastern Coal Council to provide information about coal and gas. Additionally, CONSOL donated a number of gift cards which were given away and gave away Glow Sticks to area children, celebrating CONSOL Energy and its storied history of "safely lighting the night for 150 years."

      CONSOL Energy hosted a luncheon for volunteer firefighters at our Grant Station, near Wilbert, W. Va. The luncheon was both to thank them for their volunteer service in our community and to familiarize them with the Grant Station.

      CONSOL employees took to the river in canoes to assist with a clean-up of Elk River. A dump truck load of trash was recovered from the river. Additionally, CONSOL Energy presented a check to Mountain Streams Inc. to assist with other river clean-up activities.

      CONSOL Energy officials were on hand at the Virginia Tech football game to promote the Dollar Energy Fund. CONSOL partnered with the Dollar Energy Fund, teaming up with four regional universities; including Virginia Tech, for a good cause during the 2011 college football season. The campaign was part of an effort to raise money for the Dollar Energy Fund, a non-profit organization providing a helping hand to those who struggle to maintain utility service.

      CONSOL Energy took part in the Tazewell County Business to Business Showcase event. CONSOL manned a booth at the event providing coal and gas information.

      CONSOL Energy hosted community attendees to "Marcellus 101," an educational forum geared towards understanding all the links in the chain of Marcellus Shale development. The forum was created by the Marcellus Shale Education and Training Center, a collaboration between the Pennsylvania College of Technology and the Penn State Cooperative Extension.

      CONSOL Energy helped to sponsor the Virginia Governor's Energy Conference at the Richmond Convention Center in Richmond, Va. Two CONSOL Energy employees were speakers at the conference. Employees also worked with the Eastern Coal Council at the event to distribute coal information and helped to man a coal education booth at the conference.

      Saturday, October 22

      CONSOL Energy was the lead sponsor of the Town of Grundy Spirit Festival and worked with the Eastern Coal Council to man a coal education booth and to distribute coal information to festival attendees.

      CONSOL Energy continued to sponsor the annual Race to Stock the Shelves event which is designed to assist the three community food pantries operating in Buchanan County. The program involves all county schools in a race to collect as many canned goods as they can to turn in on "race day." The top three schools win school challenge grants for their schools to use on a project of their choosing. The food collected is donated to the food pantries in 2011, almost four tons of food were collected through the one day event.

      CONSOL Energy participated in the Grundy Trunk or Treat event held in downtown Grundy, joining with other area business and industry to provide a safe Halloween trick-or-treat experience for area children. CONSOL distributed candy, stickers and glow sticks to safely light the night for area children.

      CONSOL Energy hosted a business after hours event for the Jane Lew Chamber of Commerce. The event was held at the CONSOL Energy building in Jane Lew. Attendance at the event by the business community was good.

      Tuesday, November 15

      CONSOL Energy employees were present for and took part in the stocking of Laurel Creek Lake, near our Miller Creek Operations. CONSOL pays annually to stock the lake and on release day is joined by area fisherman at the lake.

      CONSOL hosted the 4th Annual Corner Cupboard Food Bank Food Drive in Waynesburg, PA. The event included a live radio broadcast, entertainment and appearances by representatives of the Pittsburgh Penguins NHL hockey team. In 2011, CONSOL made an overall $50,000 donation to the Corner Cupboard Food Bank, which provides food assistance and hunger relief to more than 3,000 Greene County residents each month.

      CONSOL Energy was a sponsor of the Southwest Virginia Legislative Breakfast. Several CONSOL employees attended the breakfast meeting held at the Appalachian College of Pharmacy which also provided a forum for members of the community to meet, greet and hear from state legislators.

      CONSOL hosted an open house at the Whitewood Community Center and invited elected officials and members of the community to the event to tour the new facility which was built by CONSOL for the community. CONSOL also handed over the keys to the facility to county officials on this date.

      CONSOL Energy hosted a public meeting on December 1, 2011 from 4:00 p.m.- 7:00 p.m. at the Dutch Valley Restaurant in Tuscawaras County to inform the public about natural gas drilling in their area and discuss opportunities for leasing.

      CONSOL Energy was a co-sponsor of the Indiana County Chamber of Commerce Annual Meeting at the Indiana Country Club. CONSOL Chief operating Officer of Energy Operation, Bart Hyita, was the keynote speaker.

      Saturday, December 3

      CONSOL Energy hosted the FIRST Robotics Regional Robotics Competition at Southwest Virginia Community College. Employees attended to welcome attendees to the event and to watch the competition, which included a team from Twin Valley Elementary-Middle School mentored by two CONSOL Energy engineers.

      CONSOL Energy Fola employees worked with members of the Kessler Cross Lanes Ruritan Club to sort coats purchased by Fola Employees and through a CONSOL donation for children in need in order to ready them for distribution to children in area schools.

      CONSOL Energy sponsored the Buchanan County Chamber of Commerce Annual Banquet. A number of employees attended the annual event.

      Saturday, December 17

      CONSOL employees participated in a Habitat for Humanity community day. Representatives from CONSOL's Southwestern Pennsylvania operations participated in a Greene County Habitat for Humanity Corporate Work Day in Greensboro, Green County. The home, constructed for a family of five is scheduled for completion in spring 2012.
